Ways to Give

As a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible nonprofit organization, every dollar received by OATS from AARP helps us reconnect older adults with free life-changing programs tailored for older learners. Through our flagship program, Senior Planet, participants build skills that enable them to conquer isolation and become part of a thriving and supportive community. Make a lasting impact by making a tax-deductible donation through one or more of the options below.

For reference, OATS’s Employer Identification Number (EIN) is 55-0882599. If you have any questions about giving, please reach out to give@oats.org

Donor Advised Fund

A donor-advised fund (DAF), which is like a charitable savings account, provides flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to charities of your choice. You can request one-time or recurring grants. Please ask your administrator to include your contact information with the payment so we can properly credit and thank you for your generous gift.

Individual Retirement Account (IRA)

If you are 70½ years old or older, you can make a gift directly from your IRA without having to pay income taxes on the money. This popular gift option is also referred to as an IRA Charitable Rollover or a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions. Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax. Please ask your administrator to include your contact information with the payment so we can properly credit and thank you for your generous gift.

Gifts of Stock

A gift of stock is one of the simplest and most tax-savvy ways to support OATS. Just transfer appreciated stock you have owned for at least a year to OATS, pay no capital gains tax and receive a charitable deduction for the full fair-market value of your gift. The entire transaction can be handled electronically — saving you time and effort. Simply supply your broker with the following information:

Employee Matching Gifts

A matching gift is part of a company’s philanthropic initiatives that reward charitable donations. It occurs when an employee donates to a non-profit organization and the employer will also donate to that organization, most often dollar for dollar. Companies will sometimes also match donations made by spouses, retirees, and board members. Donors can request a matching gift from their employers online, by email, or via payroll giving. We are happy to confirm your gift or to satisfy any other requirements your company may have.
