“Aging in place? We are engaging in place!” – John, Pride Discussion Group Member and Senior Planet Supporter 

This June, Senior Planet from AARP isn’t only celebrating Pride month – we’re celebrating the first anniversary of our Pride Discussion Group!  

This social group meets virtually every Monday from 4-5pm ET to discuss current events, LGBT history, dating, friendship, or whatever is on our minds. The group is intended for older adults, age 60 and over, who identify as LGBT+ and are looking to connect with others in the community.  

“Even though I am 2,000 miles from the ‘closest’ member, (Senior Planet) has brought us together in a warm and fun manner.” 

Meeting virtually means that no matter where you live, our group can help you find community with other LGBT+ folks. As one participant said: “I am so delighted to have found our Pride Discussion Group at Senior Planet! Even though I am 2,000 miles from the “closest” member, (Senior Planet) has brought us together in a warm and fun manner.” 

While there are usually around ten participants, the group is different every week. You can come every Monday, every few weeks or stop in sporadically to catch-up and meet some new faces! For some participants, this has proven to be a great way to stay connected to their old communities: “I’m a transplant to GA from NYC. Finding this group has been the best thing to happen to me here in Atlanta. It helps me stay connected to LGBT seniors and I also stay connected to my hometown!”
