Meet the Trainer: Tina Wang

Tina Wang joined Senior Planet as a trainer in 2018 and has been an integral part of the Fitness and Wellness team ever since. Outside of teaching Chair Yoga online every Tuesday and Thursday at 12pm ET, Tina is a dance and movement artist who holds an MFA in Visual Arts.

What led you to becoming a Senior Planet Trainer?
I did a dance conservatory training after my bachelor’s in dance and psychology. Then, I was a yoga instructor for about a year before joining Senior Planet. I went into Iyengar yoga after I had been injured, which meant me becoming more aware of the body and working with the body from an alignment perspective. The idea of sharing that knowledge was very exciting to me.

What are some of your favorite parts of being a trainer?
I’ve had students consistently in my class, twice a week, for the past four years, so it’s beautiful to see their progress.

What are your hobbies outside of your work as an artist and as a Senior Planet trainer?
I like swimming –  in the summer Lake Michigan is really nice to float around in. I can go on and on about how that feeds into my artistic practice, but I won’t.

What does “aging with attitude” mean to you?
The attitude one gains with age comes with a sense of nuance. The more we understand our relationship to ourselves and others, the more fluid AND steady we can make decisions that align with the how we want the world to look like.
