I love “A Long Way Home”. Heart breaking story of a child lost at 5 years old, yet the older Saroo was so grateful for his life and filled with hope to find his family of origin. When he does, he is so grateful for his two families. This book is beautifully written from his heart.
I really enjoyed this book. It was heartbreaking reading about Saroo being lost as a 5 year old. It really is miraculous that he survived his experience. I did not realize that his story was made into a movie.
I enjoyed reading the book. It was very interesting the way his life went full circle. As a young child I only imagined how scared I would be out there with one family. The grief his mother went through thinking she had lost two sons. I was happy his mother was able to see him but sorry his brother died.
It was a heartwarming story while being a sad story at the same time. So fascinating, how could a 5 year old child survive the streets and the railroad the way Saroo did. He was an extremely intelligent child and a lucky one. Loved the ending.
Good read. Heartbreaking initially; 5year old wandering the streets brought tears, although I knew he’d eventually be adopted. Just thinking of how scared he must have been, & his descriptions of hunger & poverty.
I haven’t seen the movie but I’m enjoying what I’m listening to. The life of 5 year old child shouldn’t have endure such hardship. It makes you appreciate your life.
I saw the movie “Lion” and was really moved by it. Of course, this will take some element of surprise out of reading the book. Also, It is Saroo’s story but not totally in his own words…
Ironically, I was channel surfing and saw “Lion” which I watched. Then, my book arrived and that’s when I realized they were Saroo’s story. Enjoyed both and particularly being able to “picture” as I read. The tenacity of that child-amazing. I have had many questions about my past, some answered, but never reached the ‘reconnecting’ stage. Look forward to discussion!
Comment on book club selection “ A Long Way Home”: I posted this about a week ago, but it was not published.
Be aware that this book was re-published under the title “Lion”, the name of the movie it was made into. That’s where I found it in my local library.
